Apple today sent the release candidate versions of upcoming iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 updates to developers and public beta testers for testing purposes, and the new software comes a week after the release of the fourth beta.

Developers can download iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 from the Apple Developer Center or over the air after installing the appropriate profile on an iPhone or iPad. Public beta testers can get the profile from Apple’s beta testing website.

iOS 15.5 and iPadOS 15.5 are minor updates compared to previous iOS 15 point releases, and there are limited changes. Apple may release an Apple Classical app in the near future, and there are references to it in beta, but it’s not available yet. Apple is using the iOS 15.5 update to lay the groundwork for functionality that allows developers of “reader” apps to add a link to an external website to sign up for and manage accounts outside of the App Store.

There are also minor changes to Apple Pay Cash, with Apple adding request and sending options, and Apple making some changes to the iTunes Pass that used to be available in the Wallet app. Apple’s official release notes for the update are below:

iOS 15.5 includes the following improvements and bug fixes:
– Wallet now allows Apple Cash customers to send and request money with their Apple Cash card
– Apple Podcasts includes a new setting to limit episodes stored on your iPhone and delete older ones automatically
– Fixes an issue where home automation, activated by people arriving or departing, may not work
Some features may not be available in all regions or on all Apple devices. For information about the security content of Apple software updates, visit this website:

iOS 15.5 will likely launch publicly next week.
