Here are five new iPhone 16 features you might’ve missed

Apple unveiled its iPhone 16 lineup this week, with stunning new colors, a new camera button, larger batteries, and support for Apple Intelligence. You’ve probably heard about all the major features by now, but some of the smaller features introduced this year may have gone unnoticed.

Faster charging

The iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Plus charge faster than ever, with MagSafe and USB-C. With the iPhone 16, you can enjoy 25W MagSafe charging and up to 45W wired charging with USB-C.

That’s significantly faster than previous iPhone models, which were only capable of charging up to 15W with MagSafe and up to 30W with USB-C. If charging your iPhone at any given time is an important feature to you, 16 might be a good time to upgrade.

Lower minimum brightness

Apple’s latest iPhones now support a much lower minimum brightness, down to 1 nit. If you’ve ever tried to lower the brightness on your iPhone late at night and still felt like it was too bright, the iPhone 16 should solve that problem.

Macro photography

While this feature was originally introduced with the iPhone 13 Pro in 2021, the ability to take macro photos was never possible on the cheaper iPhone until now. That’s because the iPhone 16 finally has a new ultra-wide camera, allowing users to finally get those close-ups.

Faster Wi-Fi

All new iPhone 16 models support Wi-Fi 7, bringing faster Wi-Fi speeds to base iPhone users. That’s assuming you have internet speeds and a router capable of taking advantage of it anyway.

Wi-Fi 7 supports speeds of up to 46Gbps, which is five times faster than Wi-Fi 6E’s 9Gbps. Wi-Fi 7 also operates on 320MHz channels and supports the 6GHz band, which significantly reduces interference and signal congestion.

Spatial images and videos

Finally, the iPhone 16 now supports Apple Vision Pro spatial photos and spatial videos. Apple introduced spatial video support on the iPhone 15 Pro last year, but it’s new for the entry-level iPhone 16.

Additionally, support for spatial imaging is new, allowing users to capture images with depth data, making them more immersive when viewed on Apple’s new $3,500 mixed reality headset.

Conclusion

While the more eye-catching features like Apple Intelligence, colors, and the new camera capture button will likely entice people to upgrade, I think these smaller features are more interesting.
