Samsung has finally announced the release date for One UI 7, the next update to its Android mobile operating system.

One UI 7 has been in beta for months, and a beta version is already available for users of the Galaxy S25, Galaxy S25 Plus, and Galaxy S25 Ultra, as well as Samsung’s recent mid-range Galaxy A26, A36, and Galaxy A56.

However, users of older Samsung Galaxy phones, even the flagship Galaxy S24 series released last year, are still stuck on the One UI 7 beta versions.

The update rollout has been chaotic, but this announcement finally gives us a concrete release date—we previously heard the update would arrive in April.

So, Samsung Galaxy users can rest assured knowing when the Android 16 update will arrive on their phones—or so it seems.

Waiting Game

In reality, the release date announced by Samsung only refers to the beginning of the One UI 7 rollout. While users of the Samsung Galaxy S24, Galaxy Z Fold 6, and Galaxy Z Flip 6 series will receive the update on April 7, users of older Galaxy devices will have even more to look forward to.

Samsung has not yet detailed any additional release dates on its roadmap, although an official Samsung blog post lists the next batch of devices that will receive One UI 7, including the Galaxy S24 FE, Galaxy S23, Galaxy S23 FE, Galaxy Z Fold 5, Z Flip 5, Galaxy Tab S10, and Galaxy Tab S9.

The blog post states that One UI 7 will be rolled out “gradually” to this expanded list of phones and tablets, which doesn’t suggest Samsung is in a rush.

As mentioned earlier, Samsung is at risk of “interference” with Android 16, currently in beta for the Google Pixel 9 family. As mentioned earlier, One UI 7 is Samsung’s implementation of Android 15, scheduled for release in September 2024.

Either way, this is still good news. The end of this system is looming, even if we can’t see the full picture yet. I think it’s time for the software that powers Samsung’s best phones to reach more flagship devices—share your thoughts in the comments below.
